MEET OUR TEAM: ELLIE SISSON, YOUTH WORKER
In our latest ‘Meet Our Team’ blog post, we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Sisson, our new Youth Worker here at Success4All.
Ellie will be leading and facilitating both our STAND4 & YAB youth groups and we’d like you to get to know her a little better.
What’s your role with Success4All?
I’m Success4All’s new youth worker!
What did you do before joining Success4All?
I have recently graduated with a master’s degree in Law (Criminal Justice). Between finishing my studies and starting at Success4All, I briefly worked as a learning support assistant at a school for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as with a sixth form class in an autism centre.
What is a typical day for you currently looking like as a Youth Worker at Success4All?
Since I’m so new, a lot of my focus is on getting to know other youth workers in the area and gearing up for our group’s upcoming projects! I’m currently doing a lot of research and joining in on every networking event and training session I can.
What is your favourite aspect of your role so far?
I feel like everyone who works in youth work probably says this, but my favourite aspect so far is definitely getting to meet and getting to know all the young people we work with. They really are fantastic and are just so entertaining!
What is it that really gets you motivated and ready to go?
If I need a boost in the morning I love listening to ‘Dangerous’ by a band called Set It Off, which always gets me ready and raring to go! As cheesy as it is, I also like the quote, ‘be the change you wish to see in the world.’ My biggest hope is that one day I can look back and know I made a positive change, however small it may be.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I volunteer as a Civilian Instructor at a local air cadet squadron, so between work and my commitments there, I get pretty busy! But I always make time to see my friends. I’m also currently trying to get back to the gym and I’ve rediscovered my love of reading, which I’m SO excited about since I very much lost that whilst at university.
If you could have one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is a tough one for me because I love cooking, as does my dad, so I get to have so many tasty dishes! It would definitely be something pasta-based though because I’m pasta obsessed, I have a recipe for an amazing creamy cajan pasta, so I think I’d have to say that!
