Spanish Textiles
by Emily Wastell on July 2, 2014
As part of the Real Translation Project in partnership with Newcastle University, language students from Newcastle University and students from the Learning Hub at Walker Technology College began their Spanish Textiles Project.
So far, they have worked together to make a Spanish-English glossary and phrase book for students of Textiles. The children and young people of Walker Technology participating in the project got to visit Newcastle University, and spoke in front of a large audience in a lecture room about the project!
The Spanish Textiles will also be run in Summer School; the group of university and WTC students will decide on activities and will run the workshop using textiles and Spanish instructions.
The club gives the opportunity for the young people of Walker who may be excluded from learning a foreign language a chance to do something practical, linked purposefully to their vocational study and explores new ways of learning.
